Apple held their Photokina Media Event (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060914090209.shtml) today and announced Aperture 1.5.
Aperture 1.5 provides more iLife inegration, plug-in support for Internet services, and advanced library and editing features. An early summary of features are listed:
• More flexible use of storage. Photos on DVDs and other storage.
• Offline media can be "edited"
• iLife, iDVD, iWork, Keynote integration<
• Plug-in API offered. Plug Ins for Gettyimages, iStockPhoto, and Flickr available, with more coming
• New Loupe, Magnification no longer tied to specific settings/steps.
•*Loupe shows color information
• Improved Meta-data support, allowing meta data assigned to several images.
• XMP format is supported
• Better sharpening tool
• New full-screen comparison mode for several images at once
• iPod/iTunes integration. Transfer photos to your iPod
It is a free update to existing Aperture owners and should be available later this week.

Yeah man, I've been waiting too! I think I've checked software update more in the last 3 days than I have in the last year.
I wonder if 10.4.8 is required? There was a separate thread about 10.4.8 being close to done. As I understand it, the RAW conversion stuff is built into the OS, so I wonder if there's a co-dependency between the two updates.
Anyway, I'm hoping "this week" means tomorrow, not Sunday.

I think Apple really got it right with the iPad. The main focus won't be USB, SD card slot, HDMI or anything else like that. They have solutions for "connectivity" already. Even if it isn't your preferred solution, they won't go back and do it in a way they don't figure is the ideal way. If they eventually want to allow the additions of mice, printers, cameras, Apple would much rather all that stuff is done through Bluetooth, RFID, or WiFi.
No. The real future of the iPad is for it to become thinner and lighter and add their own cloud based syncing. The rumours are that they have a carbon fiber guy on board now. Perfect. Make everyone else look and feel even clunkier. Sure they'll improve on the cameras and processors, but the idea here is to make a magic piece of paper that can do anything.
They will add the ability to have pressure sensitivity one day (when it doesn't increase the cost of the iPad and is a real alternative to a Wacom Cintiq... which are $2k). Maybe they can find a way to put all the sensitivity in the pen and have it bluetooth that info back to the iPad.... so no pressure sensitive addition to the iPad; just a costly pressure-sensitive bluetooth pen.

I won't watch the video because i'm faint of heart, i even had to close my eyes for half of American History X (everyone should watch that movie btw). Bottom line is this kid probably got fired and is now liable for $300 bucks, is seen as a thief by his family, friends and ex-coworkers, will probably hold a guilt trip for some time and probably start him down the road of failure. All this kid was doing, was trying to work at a job. Something admirable. But it's all ok. Because you have your iPad2 at a discounted price. enjoy yourself.

It's a really good Verizon commercial, but going back to the fact that AT&T has a better network than Verizon? No way. If you mean better by having an overall slower 3G network, dropped calls, booted of the network, and having horrible coverage? Yeah then it's better. Apple would do alot better on Verizon's network due to the fact that Verizon's network can handle the MMS, and 100,000 iPhones using the same network in a square mile. AT&T, can't. They were so worried that the MMS would be too much for their network.

3. porn industry choses the cheapest format -> hd-dvd
the big thing will be the players. blu-ray players had a bad start (frames were dropped, image quality wasn't that good, delays).
it looks like blu-ray will have a hard fight.
HD DVD is barely any cheaper then Blu-Ray right now.
I mean few bucks isn't going to change my mind.
Also the porn industry more then likely went with VHS because of it's 3 hrs capacity then it just being cheaper of the two. Think how much porn could be crammed onto a blu-ray disc!?

Notice? They're "open." They have "principles." They're renegades, and they don't have anybody to negotiate, hard-nose, one-to-one, with the old-line companies. They really look down on them anyway. Google Books? They just went ahead and copied millions of them, and then looked around like little angels when the Authors and Publishers said, "No way!" Google TV? Nice idea, but very poor execution -- and no deals with networks or movie companies. So you have to search, a la Google, for previews of movies only. No Hulu. What about Amazon? Jobs made the big fuss about ending DRM, but he kept negotiating with the labels unsuccessfully, because he didn't want variable pricing either. So all the labels gave DRM-free tracks to Amazon. No DRM, but variable pricing. Jobs had to cave eventually.

You're getting negative votes on your post just because people here know that Apple will never do that, but I think I have to agree with you. I mean I own the iPad 1 now and love it, but I'd love it even more if I could write on it with a pen.

They walk around with that glazed look in their eyes and just blink at you when somebody who has a need suggests it be incorporated into the function of the iPad. I've learned that most Apple lemmings here are predictable and boring.
The iPad needs handwriting tech. It's a logical and natural desire/wish. Why would anyone NOT want that? Especially if Apple insists on showing that stupid baby ultrasound over� and over� I don't know any medical staff that actually uses one on the job. You simply can't input information on the thing while on the go and holding it in your other hand. (I actually don't know anyone that uses the iPad except from a comfy chair or couch).
Apple is still waiting for the market to figure out where this thing belongs. So far it looks like it's ideal for toddlers, facebookers and tweeters. Wake me when it can actually do something to save me time so I can pass that along to my family, friends and other more important things.

Excellent! Although I think some are underestimating the utility of negative ratings in increasing the SNR of the forums. I can't tell you how many times I've read through a thread (especially a front page-based thread) with factual errors that no one catches for pages and while other folks speculate wildly based on that, and then others go into hysterics over the speculation and on and on... it gets ugly
A few points:
Does this use the vB reputation system? If so, I recommend the Public Display of Affection plugin if you're going to change things to show who up/downvoted. PDA was (last I checked) not explicitly compatible with 3.8.x, but I've got it running (see sig) on 3.8.1. (If you're not using the vB rep system, why not? You can hide the pips entirely, although my forum finds them useful, to judge the credibility of who's agreeing/disagreeing)
Seconding the comment about the style... the buttons just look... off somehow.
Definitely do NOT hide posts based on downvotes. It just doesn't work for forums. Comments, yes, forums, no. The number should just help speed up recognition of good and bad posts as such, not be a filter for them.
Not sure if I like the one-click interface. Using the regular vB rep controls requires 2 clicks (three, if you don't disable that damned JS alert) to give rep. It's a slightly greater commitment, which gives people a second to think before downvoting. On the other hand, it's one-click on reddit too, and I haven't up or downvoted every post and comment... it's a tossup.

Seconding the comment about the style... the buttons just look... off somehow.
Definitely do NOT hide posts based on downvotes. It just doesn't work for forums. Comments, yes, forums, no. The number should just help speed up recognition of good and bad posts as such, not be a filter for them.
Not sure if I like the one-click interface. Using the regular vB rep controls requires 2 clicks (three, if you don't disable that damned JS alert) to give rep. It's a slightly greater commitment, which gives people a second to think before downvoting. On the other hand, it's one-click on reddit too, and I haven't up or downvoted every post and comment... it's a tossup.

EDIT: Finally, just a comment, PhoneyDeveloper pointed out that you had a parallel thread on the Apple Discussion forums. JMHO, but that's poor netiquette and is a waste of both your time and ours. At least link the two conversations, so folks don't end up repeating what someone else said on the other forum. Even just to say "someone over at the Apple Discussion Fourms (link) suggested ..."

Let me tell you something balamw, and I want you to remember it because it's obvious that you don't get my point either, even if I have said it over 10 times in this thread.
If you don't want to participate on my threads, stay out of it. Nobody is forcing you to read or post comment, alright ? If I want to open 10 threads on the subject in 10 different forums, well.. **** it.. that is how I like it. I'm not wasting anybodies time if they don't want to. Just ignore it and go to another one. I hope this is clear from now on.
About your links.. don't post them again.. I open one and read two paragraphs, I know where thats going. I could post 3 pages explaining you why and how Pro Developers should help Newbies but I not going to do that.
Next thing, quiz question: Just go ahead and ask, you can do as you like here; you'll sometimes get my answers just as sometimes I gets yours.

My sources.. well, my main sources is the Apple documentation (all of it), then theres books and all the same stuff than most developers learn from. And.. no I haven't read all of the books, nor watch every video but I will.
I may not understand it all now balamw but give me a year or two and will see who needs some catching up to do.

Windows 8 is worse than anything else I've seen when it comes to keeping things secret. I'm seeing new screenshots nearly every day.
