2010 Updo Hairstyles
What's the trend in formal hair this year? According to InStyle magazine (March 2010), the new updos have beads, color, and intricate swirls.
"The inventive styles that showed up on the spring runways brought a cool, chic vibe to the traditional chignon."
Look #1: "Embellished updo." "The beaded threads peeking out from Carolina Herrera's loose chignons look like spun-gold strands of hair."
"It's dressy," says hairstylist Orlando Pita, "yet it still has an ease about it."
They look charming, creative and sophisticated; InStyle gives the eight-step process to get the style.
Look #2: "The rosette." It is twisty and cute. "Sleek chignons twisted to resemble little flowers at the 3.1 Phillip Lim show came across as both sweet and sophisticated."
Look : "The whirl." It's inspired by 1970s movies. It has unraveling topknots and was revealed on the fashion models at the Fendi fashion show. They said it looks like the ladies just rolled out of bed (it's messy). Yes, it does, but it also lacks creativity, so its messy configuration dominates the look too strongly. The back is completely up (it's pinned at the top), leaving your neck completely exposed.
Hairstylist Sam McKnight believes the style can be described as "soft sexiness." It's more haute couture than prêt-à-porter.
